Kalie Hostutler Ashby Academic Achievement Fund Receives Check from Tucker Community Foundation’s Run for It Event

Members of ‘Kalie’s Crew’ at Garrett College were presented with a check in the amount of $4,866.75 from the Tucker Community Foundation’s Run for It event in support of the Kalie Hostutler Ashby Academic Achievement Fund at Garrett College. Employees of the College established the Kalie Hostutler Ashby Academic Achievement Fund to honor the memory of Kalie Hostutler Ashby, a native of Oakland, and Garrett College alumnus and staff member.

More than 60 family members and friends joined together as Kalie’s Crew last September on the streets of Davis, W.Va. to participate in the annual event. Kalie’s lasting impact on her community is evident in the participation we received,” stated Kim DeGiovanni, KHAAAF Chair. “It was wonderful to have so many of Kalie’s family, friends and colleagues gathered, along with numerous Southern Garrett High School (SGHS) athletes and coaches, working together to build Kalie’s legacy. Because of their fundraising efforts, we are approaching our endowment goal and are just steps away from putting Kalie’s fund into action.”

According to the Tucker Community Foundation, there were 1,290 registered racers with 1,025 participants making it across the finish line. Sixty-three teams collectively took home more than $235,000 in proceeds. Kalie’s Crew took home numerous awards, including the largest team award, the Garrett County Commission Award, and many individual awards by age group.
