Club Holds Dinner for International Students

The Civic Club of Oakland recently held a dinner for Garrett College International Students at the college's Community Aquatic and Recreation Center. The dinner was coordinated by Ginny Grove, International Outreach chair for club. Jean Tumbarello, club president, gave opening remarks of welcome and a brief history about why the Civic Club of Oakland got started back in 1911. Over 25 people attended the dinner, including the international students and new GC president, Dr. Richard Midcap. Served on tables decorated in a valentine theme, the dinner consisted of meat and vegetarian lasagna, along with vegetable fried rice, bread, rolls, salads, sodas, water and a dessert table featuring cakes, pies, brownies, and cookies. The food was homemade and donated by the club and college members in attendance. This is the club's second outreach event for the GC International Students. Leftover food was given to the students in individual plastic containers, also donated by club members.
