Student Life

student throwingStudents can find a variety of things to do on campus and off campus.  The various clubs and activities Garrett offers allow students to meet new people and participate in activities to suit their interests such as Intercollegiate sports, drama, and intramurals.  At Garrett, our clubs and activities are developed to complement the college's academic programs and services by providing opportunities that further enhance the student's overall development. Check out the calendar to find out what's coming up.

Many of our academic programs and curriculum provide opportunities that expand the academic experience beyond the classroom: field trips, social events, and co-curricular activities.

Whether you live in on campus or off campus, whether you are a traditional student or nontraditional student, you will want to be part of student life.  One of the easiest ways to get involved and to meet new people is to attend the Spring Fling held in May every year or attend a baseball game or a scheduled co-curricular activity.  There is something for everyone at Garrett College.  We know that making lasting friendships and good memories are an important part of the college experience.

three climbersThe outdoors is a great educator. Garrett's natural setting serves as a classroom for many of our programs and is also used by our faculty for formal instruction. Our programs in Natural Resources and Wildlife Technology and Adventure Sports, are concentrated in outdoor curriculum. Our mountains, farmlands, streams, and Deep Creek Lake make learning exciting and fun. You don't have to major in one of these programs to take advantage of great outdoor classes like Wilderness Survival Skills, Ice Climbing, and Introduction to Rafting and River Guiding.  We also offer noncredit courses in a number of outdoor/recreational areas.

There is also an endless variety of off-campus experiences from which to choose: State parks and reserves, boating on the lake, hiking and biking on Garrett County's miles of trails, and, of course, skiing and golfing at the Wisp Resort.  Just a couple miles away you'll find movie theaters, go-cart tracks, and several great restaurants.
