Coordinator of Programming: Center for Adventure and Outdoor Studies Garrett College invites applications for a full-time Coordinator of Programming for its Center for Adventure and Outdoor Studies (CAOS) This position is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Experiential Education Service and Competition Teams. Additionally, this position will provide support to the Outdoor Leadership & Adventure Education academic program.

Qualifications: Minimum of two (2) years of related work experience. Education/experience: Associates' degree is required preferably in a related field.

Hiring Range: $44,049 to $52,358. Placement is based on relevant experience. Outstanding benefits package is available shortly upon hire.

2025-03-24 Adult Education Instructor McHenry Campus View   Download  

Part-time instructor is needed to teach an Adult Basic Education and GED® Exam preparation class located in the Garrett County Detention Center. The Adult Education Program is grant funded through the Maryland Department of LABOR and the Federal Department of Labor through the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act.

The class will be held at the Garrett County Detention Center in Oakland, MD.

Position Duties:

  • Planning and conducting classroom instructional activities in math, social studies, science, and language arts for incarcerated individuals within the local detention center.
  • Coordinating basic skills testing, progress tracking, and GED® Ready assessments.
  • Maintaining grant-required student records.
  • Assessing progress towards achieving individual student educational goals and program goals.
  • Developing and implementing individualized and group lesson plans.
  • Planning and conducting classroom activities designed to prepare students for a career or post-secondary training opportunities, considering the unique challenges of incarcerated individuals.

Minimum Education Requirements:

Bachelors' Degree required, with a Master's Degree preferred; training and experience in adult education are required.

Essential Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Teaching experience preferred but not required if the candidate has other experiences demonstrating the ability to meet position duty requirements.
  • Possess knowledge of the principles and practices of adult education.
  • Ability to provide individualized instruction to meet the unique needs of each student.
  • Knowledge of and experience helping students with learning disabilities or differences.
  • Familiarity with various instructional methods, including experiential and contextualized learning.
  • Ability to use technology to meet students' needs and accelerate learning, understanding the limitations and resources available in a detention center.
  • Ability to establish and maintain an effective learning environment for a diverse group of students, including those facing personal and environmental challenges.
  • Ability to monitor student performance and provide support to promote successful completion of the program, particularly for incarcerated individuals aiming for reentry into society.

Garrett College invites applications for a full-time Associate Dean of Academic Affairs.

This position is responsible for:

  • Oversight of adjunct faculty hiring, training, evaluation and professional development.
  • Oversight of intake, assignment, and classroom implementation 504/Americans with Disability Act student accommodations.
  • Provide oversight for the College and Me program.
  • Provide support to the Dean of Academic Affairs (DAA) to carry out academic policies and initiatives.
  • Develop, implement, and review educational programs to support high quality academic offerings.
  • Provide support for faculty orientation and professional development programming.
  • Collaborate with faculty and academic staff in department assessments and the evaluation of student learning outcomes, program outcomes, and general education outcomes.
  • Work with the DAA and designated faculty/staff to monitor and assess corequisite Math and English programs.
  • Collaborate with the DAA in designing relevant educational opportunities and curricula to serve the school age students of Garrett County.
  • Assist the DAA with ongoing initiatives with Garrett County Public Schools.
  • Work with the DAA to carry out accreditation responsibilities.
  • Ensure compliance with policies and procedures, federal, state, and local rules and regulations and accreditation requirements.

Qualifications: Master's degree in an appropriate academic or professional discipline, doctorate preferred; minimum 5 years of full-time teaching experience, a combination of community college and public school system preferred; minimum 2 years educational leadership related to this role; minimum 2 years of experience working with 504/Americans with Disabilities Act and its application in the classroom.

Hiring Range: $77,272 - $90,110. Outstanding benefits package is available shortly upon hire. Paid time off is offered after successful completion of the ninety-day (90-day) provisional period.

Garrett College invites applications for a full-time Dean of Administrative Services. This position is an executive-level position reporting to the President. This position directs the budget development and budget management functions of the College, and oversees fiscal functions, including financial planning and management, in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles. Responsibilities include overseeing through the Director of Fiscal Operations establishment of financial policies, procedures, controls, and reporting systems that facilitate legal and regulatory compliance of accounting and financial reporting functions. This position also oversees college support offices that include Compliance; Facilities, Security, and Capital Projects; Information Technology, and Financial Aid, and ensures contract compliance with the College's third-party food services provider.

Qualifications: Master's Degree preferably in Business, Finance, Accounting or related field. 2023-04-10 Part-Time Instructor - Mountaintop Truck Driving Institute McHenry Campus View  

2 days a week 8am-4pm. Garrett College will provide training and a shadowing experience prior to working with students.

Program Title: Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

Description: This skills-oriented program offers a professional truck driving curriculum for the purpose of qualifying students for entry level positions as drivers in over-the-road or local driving vehicles. Topics covered include the following: pre-trip inspection, various skills in the yard, and over-the-road instruction along with a basic overview of map reading and log books. At the completion of the training, the student will be taken to demonstrate at their local Department of Motor Vehicles to obtain a Class A or B license.

Time to Complete Program:
  • Class A-Training will encompass 210 hours (30 days) of training and is offered in a weekday setting 7.5 hrs. timeframe, Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • Class B is 6 days of training. Location of Training: Mountaintop Truck Driving Institute (MTDI), Grantsville
Upon Successful Completion:
  • Students will be able to test at the local Department of Motor Vehicle site using a Garrett College truck (up to two attempts).
  • Students will have completed training requirements set forth in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations in accordance with 49 CFR380.503. and receive associated certificate.

2021-10-13 Lifeguards for Community Aquatics and Recreation Complex (CARC) McHenry Campus View   Download  

Community Aquatics & Recreation Complex (CARC) is seeking applicants for Lifeguards.

Applicants must have a current certificate in Lifeguarding, CPR/AED, and First Aid. Training and Certifications are available on site. The work schedule will vary, including mornings, nights, weekends, and some holidays. The facility opens at 6am and closes at 8:30 during the weekdays, 8 am-8pm on Saturday, and 10am-6pm on Sunday. There will be physical demands of patrolling the pool deck, making water rescues, and performing CPR. Life guards are required to attend monthly In Service training. The work is indoors.

Personal protective equipment, one hip pack, and one uniform tee shirt will be provided and are required while on duty. Lifeguards are responsible for patron safety. They should be able to assess a situation and quickly respond to an emergency.
