Garrett College is inviting applications for the position of Associate Dean of Academic Affairs. This position is responsible for guiding and directing adjunct faculty and staff in the management and delivery of academic programming; providing support to the Dean of Academic Affairs (DAA) in day-to-day operations and initiatives; managing the online e-campus bookstore; monitoring and assessing various instructional programs. Supervise adjunct faculty hiring, training, evaluation and professional development. Work in coordination with the Student Affairs Office to implement 504/ American Disabilities Act (ADA) laws and regulations.

Garrett is a small, public, two-year College nestled in the rural mountains of Western Maryland and is approximately a two-hour drive from Pittsburgh and a three-hour drive from Washington, DC and Baltimore. The area’s most popular tourist attraction is Deep Creek Lake, the largest fresh water lake in Maryland. Garrett county is also home to WISP Resort, a four-season resort with multiple ski slopes, golf courses, and outdoor activities. The college is located in an area of Maryland with a general population of around 30,000.

The College employs 22 full-time faculty, 35 part-time faculty, and approximately 85 full-time staff. Garrett College offers degree, transfer, and certificate programs that prepare students for careers and/or further study in the following areas: Addictions Counseling, Business Administration, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Electrical Engineering and Pre-Allied Health, Sports Management and Teacher Education and more.

Required Qualifications

2024-04-02 Men's Soccer Coach McHenry Campus View  

GARRETT COLLEGE invites applications for the stipend position of Men’s Soccer Head Coach. This position is responsible for the start-up of the men's soccer program including recruitment, scheduling, and other duties as assigned by the Co-Athletic Directors.

Candidate must possess knowledge of principles, rules and regulations pertaining to men’s soccer; demonstrate ability to work well with students, good communications skills, ability to recruit athletes, ability to represent Garrett College effectively in external settings, good organizational skills, strong planning skills, and ability to conduct effective budgeting with the Athletic Director. Candidate must have the ability to travel and work evenings and occasional weekends.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree required in related field; Minimum one (1) year’s coaching experience at the collegiate level; or significant equivalent experience. CPR, First Aid, AED certified.

Required: Candidate must be able to drive a College vehicle, including a 15-passenger van. A background check, to include motor vehicle report, will be conducted and must be cleared.

Stipend: $20,000. No benefits other than sick and safe leave apply.

2023-08-23 Instructors for I Can Swim McHenry Campus View   Download  

Community Aquatics & Recreation Complex (CARC) is seeking applicants for Instructors for the I Can Swim program. I Can Swim is a blended learning experience for Garrett County’s kindergarten students. It is a combination of water safety in the classroom and swim lessons in the pool.

The program runs for 9 weeks in the fall and 4 weeks in the spring during the school year. Hours are 9am-2pm Monday-Thursday. Instructors must enjoy working with children and have some background in aquatics and/or water safety with some knowledge of swimming.

Instructors are responsible for working with a team of instructors to keep the students safe while creating a fun learning environment. Instructors are responsible for classroom set up, classroom tear down, and day to day organization of classroom time.

2023-04-10 Part-Time Instructor - Mountaintop Truck Driving Institute McHenry Campus View  

2 days a week 8am-4pm. Garrett College will provide training and a shadowing experience prior to working with students.

Program Title: Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)

Description: This skills-oriented program offers a professional truck driving curriculum for the purpose of qualifying students for entry level positions as drivers in over-the-road or local driving vehicles. Topics covered include the following: pre-trip inspection, various skills in the yard, and over-the-road instruction along with a basic overview of map reading and log books. At the completion of the training, the student will be taken to demonstrate at their local Department of Motor Vehicles to obtain a Class A or B license.

Time to Complete Program:
  • Class A-Training will encompass 210 hours (30 days) of training and is offered in a weekday setting 7.5 hrs. timeframe, Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • Class B is 6 days of training. Location of Training: Mountaintop Truck Driving Institute (MTDI), Grantsville
Upon Successful Completion:
  • Students will be able to test at the local Department of Motor Vehicle site using a Garrett College truck (up to two attempts).
  • Students will have completed training requirements set forth in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations in accordance with 49 CFR380.503. and receive associated certificate.

2021-10-13 Lifeguards for Community Aquatics and Recreation Complex (CARC) McHenry Campus View   Download  

Community Aquatics & Recreation Complex (CARC) is seeking applicants for Lifeguards.

Applicants must have a current certificate in Lifeguarding, CPR/AED, and First Aid. Training and Certifications are available on site. The work schedule will vary, including mornings, nights, weekends, and some holidays. The facility opens at 6am and closes at 8:30 during the weekdays, 8 am-8pm on Saturday, and 10am-6pm on Sunday. There will be physical demands of patrolling the pool deck, making water rescues, and performing CPR. Life guards are required to attend monthly In Service training. The work is indoors.

Personal protective equipment, one hip pack, and one uniform tee shirt will be provided and are required while on duty. Lifeguards are responsible for patron safety. They should be able to assess a situation and quickly respond to an emergency.
